NASHUA, N.H. (WHDH) – A Lawrence man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a 10-week-old baby, according to police.

Enrique Santiago, 20, is the boyfriend of the child’s mother, who took the boy to a hospital last Thursday. Santiago had been caring for the child earlier that day.

Police were notified because the injuries were suspicious. The boy had sustained bruising to the left side of his face, ear and buttocks. The child had sustained a brain bleed as well.

Further examinations revealed that the boy had older injuries including fractured ribs.

The boy was transferred to a hospital in Boston in critical, but stable condition. He is expected to survive, but with lasting disabilities.

The investigation revealed that Santiago assaulted the child earlier in the day by purposely swinging a pillow case with a tablet in it at the child, striking him in the face.

Santiago is facing multiple counts of first degree assault and one count of second degree assault. He is being held on $1 million cash bail.

He will be back in Nashua for an arraignment on Jan. 2.
