FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — An attorney says mental health counselors supported the use of violent video games by the suspect in last year’s Florida high school massacre in hopes of containing his violent tendencies.

Henderson Behavioral Health treated Nikolas Cruz for years before his arrest in the killings of 17 people.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the attorney representing the father of victim Meadow Pollack told a judge Tuesday that Henderson counselors also suggested Nikolas Cruz get a punching bag and do target practice with a nonlethal gun.

The judge is determining whether Henderson should be dismissed from a lawsuit filed by some victims’ families against it, the Broward school board and sheriff’s office and others.

Henderson attorney Joshua Walker said many of the allegations are false or mischaracterized.
