November showed its real colors today. Only limited sun, a cool breeze and chilly temps – a good 10 degrees below normal for some. Now to sprinkle in some steady rain.

Right on cue, a soggy weather system is rolling eastbound. Showers are due to arrive by early/mid afternoon tomorrow as the first wave of rain reaches out to us. This is a minor batch of wet weather, likely only laying down a tenth of an inch of rain. The second wave is more significant with steady rain – at times even turning moderate – through Wednesday. Welcomed water in this extended drought.

So where is the cold? Well, if today wasn’t chilly enough, there’s always tomorrow. We’ll still be running several degrees below normal.

Oh, you mean arctic cold. Take a look at the temperatures across Central Canada in the map to the right. You picking up what I’m putting down? There are no subzero temperatures to be had anywhere.

So we work with the cold we have, which is limited, leftover and easily overwhelmed by a switch in the wind direction and a moderation of the airmass. Which is exactly the way the weekend is looking now.

Will this hold through December? Remains to be seen. If the jet stream buckles, all bets are off – the cold will plunge south. If not, then we’ll sail into Christmas week the way we sailed into Thanksgiving: brown and dull.
