Police arrested a Leominster man on Thursday after he walked away from a serious car crash.
At around 6:15 p.m., a State Police trooper spotted a suspect running stop sign on Mills Street and attempted to stop his car, according to State Police.
However, the suspect fled from the trooper too quickly for the trooper to chase, State Police said.
A few moments later, the trooper found the suspect’s car had crashed at the corner of Mills and Williams Street, State Police said.
Police say the crash split the man’s car into two pieces.
Witnesses told police the suspect fled from the crash scene, according to State Police.
However, Leominster Police later arrested the 39-year-old suspect, Tanio Reyes, of Leominster, at the Market Basket store in the Searstown Mall.
Reyes is facing several charges including operating after a license suspension, leaving the scene of a crash and failure to stop for police, according to State Police.
Reyes was taken to a Worcester-area hospital for evaluation for any injuries, State Police Said.
State Police say Reyes will be booked when he is released from the hospital.
