In like a lion…out like a lamb. A phrase to describe March and its wild weather. No different this year–well, at least the start of the month as we have two storms taking aim on New England. The first is windy & wet (not white so it must also be warm) while the second is a colder storm but only a glancing blow.

First things first. We have a storm slated to make a run up into New York/Northern New England tonight and a path like that means rain for us. The exception will be for a few hours as the storm begins around midnight. Some cold air will be present across western/northern MA and that means the rain drops will take the form of some sleet as well as some freezing rain….not a big deal for most but elevated surfaces along the outer Rt. 2 corridor after midnight could be slick.

For the rest of us, it’s rain & then wind which will slow down the Wednesday Morning commute. rain will be briefly heavy but thankfully it’s out by 9am. As for the wind, it cranks for much of the day (especially so from 8-11am) with wind gusts between 35-45 mph. Very windy. Initially, it’s a warm wind with temps in the 50s tomorrow morning but by afternoon the wind becomes cold (almost wickedly so) sending temps down into the low 30s by the evening commute. the cold is quite bold on Thursday despite all sorts of sunshine, temps briefly reach the low 30s.

Friday is a chilly day and a storm passing well south of New England during the day will try & safe face for winter produce some light snow. As of now the Cape/islands are the most likely areas to pick up 2-3" of snow by Friday afternoon but even around metro Boston some patchy light snow is likely throughout the day (as of now a coating-1" appears likely).

A warming trend gets under way this weekend and the potential for real spring warmth is on the table for next week…..60s & 70s (cooler coast).

The madness has begun….
