In today’s society, a large portion of our day is tied to our smartphones and tablets, but doctors warn there has been a significant jump in hand injuries.

Sixty-four percent – two thirds of American adults – own a smartphone, up from 35 percent four years ago.

While modern phones have revolutionized the way we live, all of that texting may be taking its toll. Some doctors are reporting an increase in hand injuries due to overuse.

The most common digit in danger is the thumb.

Solving the problem may mean making smarter decision with smartphones. If you feel pain, doctors recommend putting the phone down and taking frequent breaks.

Users should also try switching hands so one hand isn’t doing all the work, and placing the phone on a table to type.
