BOSTON (AP) — Health officials are trying to figure out what caused dozens of birds to fall out of the sky onto a Boston street.
City officials say 47 grackles were found Thursday in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood.
A dozen of the birds died. Others were sick and thrashing around. Rescuers helped save 35 of them.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston says it went to the neighborhood after residents reported birds falling from the sky.
Officials also are looking into what caused three neighborhood cats to get sick and if it’s related to what happened to the birds. Two of the cats have died.
The birds that died are being sent to Tufts University for testing. Results are expected next week.
