NEWTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A 911 dispatcher helped a woman in Newton deliver her own grandchild, who was born in a mall parking lot.
Friday morning, the New Hampshire woman called 911 after her 22-year-old daughter went into labor while they were at the mall. Dispatcher Kevin Donovan, 28, talked the woman through the delivery.
“Once I heard the mother screaming, trying to push the baby out, I got a little nervous myself,” said Donovan.
Donovan said 911 dispatchers are trained for helping with deliveries and have a protocol to follow. The mother gave birth to a baby girl and they are currently at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
“I was proud of myself, I think I did well,” said Donovan.
