ROSLINDALE, Mass. (WHDH) – A Roslindale playground was destroyed by a fire Monday night and firefighters are calling it suspicious.
The fire sparked at Charles Sumner Elementary School, where the playground is used by around 600 children. Parents and school staff said the children are devastated.
“They’re questioning why, why did it have to happen to their little school,” said Assistant Principal Fran Campbell. “But they’ll get through it, we’ve had therapists and counselors on-site.”
No one was at the playground at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Officials believe it will cost more than $10,000 to repair the damages. A school janitor told 7News that he found a small fire at the playground last month as he arrived for work.
Boston Public Schools Superintendent Tommy Chang said he and Mayor Marty Walsh are committed to replacing the playground as soon as they can.

That fire did minimal damage-was put out with a water extinguisher. Unknown if related, investigators are looking at both.
