BOSTON (WHDH) - With school vacation week in full-swing, a renewed push to get both kids and adults vaccinated against COVID-19 is underway at clinics across the city of Boston.
“Get Boosted” clinics like the one at Lena Park Community Center in Dorchester have been offering a little extra incentive for those wishing to get a shot or booster – a gift card of up to $75.
“It gave me an opportunity to get a booster and the gift card and it was close to home, so win-win-win,” said Dorchester resident Joyce Harvey.
Harvey walked in to the clinic on Sunday to get her booster and walked out wit a $75 gift card to Stop & Shop, telling 7NEWS she felt more protected against COVID-19, which she’s had before.
“It’s always better to be safe than sorry,” she said.
Health officials have been reminding the public that COVID is still a threat, and continue to eye the state’s hospitalization and death rate as key indicators of the spread.
Data as of Feb. 15 shows there were 102 new confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 in Massachusetts over a seven-day period and that the average age of victims was 78, underscoring the need to continue to reach the young and older populations.
Lena Park CEO Kevin Sibley said having free walk-in clinics offered at the community center is part of a larger efforts to combat health and economic disparities, giving neighbors a monetary boost as they get boosted.
“We care about health and that folks don’t have to go all the way downtown to get their shots – they can come right here in their neighborhood,” Sibley told 7NEWS. “Health is important – without your health, you have nothing else.”
