EAST BOSTON, MA (WHDH) — Police arrested an East Boston man after parents said he threatened them with a large knife outside an East Boston school.

According to police around 8:40 a.m. on Sept. 8, officers in East Boston responded to a call for a man with a knife outside Otis Elementary School on Marion Street.

When officers arrived, they located the man with the knife and took him into custody.

A search of the suspect, who police said appeared to be heavily intoxicated, found a nine-inch kitchen knife.

Witnesses said the suspect threatened several parents accompanying their kids to school.

One victim said the suspect showed the knife and threatened her with it as she walked past him with her 4-year-old son. When she saw the knife, she said she grabbed her son and quickly crossed the street.

Officers arrested a 36-year-old man from East Boston and charged him with four counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.
