Panleukopenia is a potentially fatal virus affecting cats only.

The Rescue League because aware of the outbreak after responding to reports of sick cats in the area around Walk Hill.

Officials said vaccination is highly effective at preventing the disease. A free clinic will be held in Mattapan on Oct. 22 to help residents.

It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the corner of Walk Hill Street and Harvard Street. Cats must be in carriers.
