HYANNIS, MASS. (WHDH) - A group of fishermen were saved at sea Sunday after getting trapped on a jetty off the coast of Hyannis.
Twelve fishermen were out on the water when the tide came up quickly, thanks to Sunday’s strong winds. Part of the jetty was submerged before the men could cross.
Angel Ludizaca said they were left in waist-deep water with no way to get back to shore. He called a friend for help, who called 911. The Hyannis Fire Department responded and sent a small boat out to the jetty.
Fireman Ryan Clough climbed onto the jetty and got the fishermen in life jackets. The fishermen were then handed over, three men at a time, to be shuttled over to a bigger boat that brought them to safety.
The fishermen were brought to a nearby pier and then a local yacht club. None of them required medical attention.
