TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island grand jury has determined that police officers were legally justified in fatally shooting an 80-year-old man who killed another octogenarian in a Tiverton cemetery in a dispute over an unpaid loan.

The Newport Daily News reports that the attorney general’s office said Thursday the jury won’t indict officers who shot and killed Edward Acquisto of Tiverton. No additional information was released.

Police say Acquisto shot John Cloud of Kingston, Massachusetts, on June 13 after Cloud met him there to discuss money Acquisto had borrowed from him.

Police say Acquisto fled in his car toward Fall River, Massachusetts, and then led officers on a chase back to Tiverton. They say he was killed after opening fire on police.
