MASON, N.H. (WHDH) — A New Hampshire man faces animal cruelty charges after shooting a dog in Mason, NH.

The incident happened last month.

The dog owner said she heard shots fired and called her dogs inside.

When her dog, Travis, came running, she said he had a gunshot wound on his back.

Colton Skorupan turned himself in on Saturday.

Skorupan said he shot the dog because it came running towards his 6-year-old son.

He said he’s had issues with his neighbor’s dogs in the past and was worried for his son’s safety.

Skorupan will appear in court in January.
