BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — A Brockton man already on the state’s sex offender registry has been convicted of raping and beating a woman with a baseball bat in 2014.
Anthony Bunton was convicted by a jury Wednesday of aggravated rape, assault to murder and other charges.
Authorities say the 53-year-old Bunton assaulted the 24-year-old victim behind a building and struck her repeatedly in the back of the head with a baseball bat. She required 400 stitches.
The victim identified Bunton while hospitalized and he was arrested days later.
Bunton was a Level 3 sex offender at the time of his arrest because of a rape and kidnapping conviction in 1987. He also has an indecent assault and battery conviction on his record dating to 1982.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
