Rescue crews in Gloucester saved a humpback whale caught in a fishing line.
Officials said a fisherman found the whale Wednesday morning about 4 miles off the coast of Gloucester. The whale’s body was tangled in fishing line.
Crews from the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown and the Massachusetts Environmental Police helped rescue the whale. Buoys were attached to the whale to keep it close to the surface as the fishing line was removed.
The whale was finally freed from most of the fishing line but some remained deeply embedded in the animal.
