BOSTON (WHDH) - A record number of Americans are expected to hit the road for July 4 Weekend this year, thanks to low gas prices.
AAA estimates that around 43 million Americans will be traveling this weekend. Nationally, gas prices are at around $2.30 a gallon, the lowest in over a decade. With the lower gas prices, people have billions of dollars to spend elsewhere.
However, lower gas prices means more traffic.
“A lot of travelers will be out later in the evening during those days, so you want to make sure that you’re avoiding that,” said AAA’s Tamra Johnson.
The number of travelers this year is estimated to be more than 10 percent higher than the average over the past 15 years.
