LYNN, Mass. (AP) — A Lynn man charged with fatally beating a 3-month old boy after learning that the baby and his twin brother were not his biological children has been ordered held on $100,000 bail.

A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of 32-year-old Anthony Gideika at his arraignment Wednesday on a charge of assault and battery on a child causing substantial injury. Prosecutors say charges could be upgraded.

Police responded to Gideika's home at about 2 a.m. Monday. Chase Gideika was taken to a hospital with skull and leg fractures, retinal bleeding, bruising and swelling of the testicles. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The twins were at the home even though state child welfare officials had removed an older child.

Gideika's lawyer says the boy's injuries were accidental.
