A Maine campaign against child hunger is providing grants to six school districts to help with plans to get food to kids.
The Full Plates, Full Potential campaign called on school districts to encourage families to fill out applications for free and reduced-price lunch.
Organizers of the drive say more than 60 school districts responded, and six will receive $500 for their plans to increase outreach.
The winning school districts include the Augusta, Winthrop and Greenville school districts. They also include regional school districts in the South Paris, Woodland and Thorndike areas.
Food directors, nonprofit groups, businesses and government officials launched Full Plates, Full Potential in 2014. The group says one in four Maine children struggles with food insecurity.
