AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention says it has identified an acute case of hepatitis A infection in a food service worker, and that other people may have been exposed.
The agency is recommending hepatitis A vaccination to anyone who ate, drank or worked at Cap’n Fish’s Boothbay Harbor Boat Trips in Boothbay Harbor on Sept. 2, 4 or 5. It says people who visited the business on several dates between Aug. 19 and 30 might also have been exposed, but they are outside the window during which the vaccine could prevent the illness.
Hepatitis A symptoms can range from mild illness to severe sickness that requires months of hospitalization. The Maine CDC is recommending individuals who may have been exposed stay vigilant about potential symptoms.
