PORTLAND, Maine (WHDH) — A Maine Zumba instructor accused of using her fitness studio as a front for prostitution has pleaded guilty to 20 counts.

The plea agreement spares Alexis Wright from the prospect of a high-profile trial featuring sex videos, exhibitionism and pornography, and more than a thousand texts and emails detailing the operation.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to 20 counts, decreased significantly from more than 100. Wright is accused of using a Zumba dance studio as a front for the illegal business, while also secretly recording her alleged clients without their knowledge.

Wright's alleged co-conspirator, insurance agent Mark Strong, has already been convicted on 13 counts related to promoting prostitution. He was sentenced to less than three weeks in jail.

"I think the unfortunate thing in this case is the attention that its received and the length of time that it's gone on. It will never be over for her," a defense attorney said.

Prosecutors will recommend a sentence of 10 months for Wright.
