MALDEN, Mass. (WHDH) – A makeshift memorial is growing outside of Malden High School after a teenage girl was killed in a car crash in Wakefield, N.H. Saturday morning.
Julia Vanella, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Route 16 at around 9:44 a.m. Saturday.
In front of Malden High School, people have started to leave flowers, candles and handwritten notes.
“It’s good our school comes together. We all hold each other tight. We can overcome this, you know. We're going to always remember her. She won't be forgotten,” said one student.
Those that knew her well, and some that didn't, gathered at the high school for a candelight vigil.
According to police, a Toyota 4Runner was traveling northbound on Route 16 when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Jeep Liberty.
Vanella was an occupant of the Toyota. Two other people, including the driver, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle were also transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
