Police have arrested a Malden man in connection with an assault on an MBTA bus driver.

On Monday, MBTA police received a call to respond to Malden Center station for a report that an MBTA bus operator was assaulted.

The MBTA employee told officers that while he was stopped in the Commercial Street busway a man entered the bus.

The man was later identified as Mohamed Noor, 29 of Malden.

The employee told officer Noor stood in the doorway, preventing the driver from closing the doors and continuing on his route.

According to transit police, Noor eventually boarded the bus but refused to pay his fare.

Noor began to make verbal threats and insults toward the driver. When the driver refused to move the bus, Noor struck him in the face and head with his scarf and hands.

Police caught Noor as he was walking away from the station. He became combative toward the officers as they tried to speak with him and he was placed in custody.

Noor was charged with assaulting a public employee and disorderly conduct.
