A man accused of killing a New Jersey woman and burning her body has been captured, according to the U.S. marshal’s Service.

Police arrested Fernando Owens, 43, of Dorchester on Tuesday in the Dominican Republic.

Owens had been wanted for allegedly killing 29-year-old Ashley Bortner on Nov. 3, 2015. Owens allegedly burned Bortner’s body and left it near railroad tracks in Bridgewater.

Authorities said Owens knew Bortner and that he believed she played a role in the recent death of his son.

After police issued a warrant charging Owens with murder, he allegedly fled to the Dominican Republic, the Marshal’s service said.

Marshals and the Massachusetts State Police learned Owens was hiding in Santo Domingo and arrested him there.

Authorities brought Owens back to the United States on Thursday, according to the Marshal’s service. He is currently being held in jail as he waits to return to Massachusetts, according to the Marshal’s service.
