SAUGUS, MASS. (WHDH) - A Revere Police officer is expected to be OK following an accident in Saugus that happened just before midnight Wednesday.
The officer was working a detail on Route 1 Northbound when a driver slammed into the cruiser, said police.
The cruiser was totaled and the other vehicle ended up on its side after rolling over the cruiser with the officer inside.
The officer was taken to Mass General Hospital.
State Police arrested the driver, a 43-year-old Newburyport man.
Police said the man was drunk and ignored all lights and warning signs set up at the detail.
The driver is expected to go before a judge at Lynn District Court Thursday, and other charges may be filed.
This is the fourth time in recent weeks that an accused drunk driver crashed into a work crew.
