A man was arrested in Exeter Saturday after he allegedly drove drunk and assaulted a state trooper Friday night.
Police said a trooper stopped 22-year-old Christopher St. Onge of Hampstead for erratic driving on Main Street shortly after 11:30 p.m.
The trooper performed a field sobriety test, and then told St. Onge she was arresting him for driving while intoxicated.
When the trooper told St. Onge that, he assaulted her by punching her in the face. The trooper struck St. Onge back in defense, and St. Onge managed to flee the area.
Police conducted a search early Saturday morning, and St. Onge was taken into custody shortly before 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Exeter.
St. Onge was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, DWI, transportation of alcoholic beverages, and other motor vehicle related charges.
The trooper was treated and released by Durham Fire and Rescue at the scene.
