A Chelmsford man was arrested Saturday in connection with suspicious devices found in Tyngsboro earlier this week, according to the FBI Boston Division.

The FBI and Massachusetts State Police arrested 61-year-old Danny Kelly at his home on School Street shortly after 7:30 a.m.

A bomb squad was on scene in Tyngsboro investigating suspicious devices on Thursday. State Police said they received a call from Tyngsboro Police shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday morning requesting assistance. Firefighters had discovered the devices near telephone wires while they were fighting a brush fire in the area.

Both bomb squad and crime scene services were sent to Locust Street to investigate. According to the FBI, bomb squad technicians responded and identified "multiple incendiary devices similar in structure to pipe bombs" in the area.

Investigators used X-ray machines to render and determine the devices safe. The FBI said the devices are not terrorist-related.

"It’s a serious event," said Tyngsboro Police Chief Richard Howe. "If it is a prank, it’s certainly a very serious one."

Neighbors described Kelly as a quiet person who kept to himself.

"He seemed more at ease when he was out in the woods," said neighbor Lynne Cole. "To hear this is disturbing. I kind of feel bad for him, there’s something going on with him that doesn’t seem right."
