BOSTON (WHDH) - A man was arrested on gun and drug charges in Jamaica Plain Saturday night.

According to police, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force responded to the Bromley Heath Housing Development shortly after 9:00 p.m. after receiving numerous complaints about gang and drug-related activities in the area.

When the officers observed a group loitering in the common area of one of the buildings, they approached to speak to them.

As the officers were speaking to the group, a person who was known to them walked out of an apartment with a small bag of marijuana in his hand. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Andre Raper of Jamaica Plain, quickly put the bag of marijuana in his pocket.

Police later determined the suspect was about to sell drugs to one of the men in the hallway.

Officers performed a pat frisk of Raper and discovered a one ounce bag of marijuana and several small bags packaged for sale.

Police arrested Raper without incident. Once he was in custody, he told officers there were more drugs inside the apartment and a gun hidden inside a Louis Vuitton bag.

With the consent and assistance of Raper, officers were able to recover five additional ounces of marijuana, a revolver, and several loose rounds of ammunition.

Raper was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute Class D drugs.

He will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
