BOSTON (WHDH) - A man was charged Wednesday in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault in the South End.
Ronald Brown, 52, was charged with burglary, kidnapping and aggravated rape. He had his face covered in court due to identification issues.
Police said the sexual assault happened in an apartment building near the intersection of Columbus and Clarendon streets. The victim told police at around 4 a.m., Brown climbed into her apartment through a rear window. Once inside, police said he tied up two women and sexually assaulted them. According to court documents, Brown told one of the women, “If you scream, I’ll kill you.”
Brown allegedly took the women’s laptops and cellphones and demanded the passwords from them before he left the apartment. Police found out about the alleged crime nearly 12 hours later when one of the victims was at a nearby hospital.
Police said they were able to make an arrest quickly because the suspect left a medication bottle in the bedroom of one of the victims.
“I’m glad the police worked so quickly and were able to get this right away and get him off the streets, but I think everyone else has to be careful,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said.
Brown is a registered sex offender and has a lengthy criminal history of sexual assaults, break-ins and other violent crimes. Prosecutors said he is currently living at the Pine Street Inn, where he was arrested. Police said Brown was wearing clothing that matched the description given by the victims and he had a backpack containing the women’s belongings.
Brown is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
