PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A man suspected of shooting a gun in a crowd of thousands of people during a Rhode Island arts and music festival has surrendered to police.

Michael Robertson was held on $25,000 bond after a court appearance Monday on several charges including carrying a gun without a permit and firing a gun in a compact area. He did not enter a plea.

Authorities say Robertson fired several shots into the air at the outdoor PVDFest at about 11 p.m. on June 8. No one was hurt, but the gunfire sent festival-goers scattering for cover. Authorities say as many as 70,000 people were in the area at the time.

Police have not disclosed a motive but do not think Robertson was targeting anyone.

A message was left with his attorney.
