TRURO, MASS. (WHDH) - A man has been arrested and charged in connection with murdering his mother in Truro, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office.
Emergency crews responded to a well-being check and a separate report of a fire around 9:30 p.m. Friday to find a man, Adam Howe, 34, standing in the front yard next to a fire that emergency crews soon realized was a burning body.
Howe ran into the house and locked the door before the Cape Cod Regional SWAT team later entered and apprehended Howe.
Evidence suggested that Howe’s mother, Susan Howe, 70, is the deceased, according to the DA’s Office.
“Our hearts are heavy with the news that we have lost a beloved member of our community, Susan Howe,” the DA said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends at this time of tragic loss. We are following the lead of law enforcement as they investigate this tragedy and have no further comment at this time.”
Howe is set to be evaluated for mental health issues as a result of conversations with and information from family members. He is set to be arraigned on Oct. 3.
State Police detectives are investigating the matter along with Truro Police and the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
