A man was charged with allegedly threatening the family of a Quincy police detective after the detective investigated him for a prior offense.

Salvador Mendez was already a suspect in a breaking and entering, but now he’s in even bigger trouble.

Investigators said Mendez left a threatening phone message on the voicemail of the Quincy detective investigating his case.

Police arranged protective surveillance for the detective and his family and then went looking for Mendez. Investigators said the detective had no trouble figuring out who had left the threatening message.

Mendez was found at Marlborough Hospital where Marlborough police had taken him after they said Mendez was breaking windows and acting erratically.

Quincy police picked up Mendez and charged him with threatening their detective.

The judge in the case ordered Mendez held on $10,000 bail.
