Officials are investigating after a man died after being hit by a stun gun in Fall River.

On Monday, May 16, Fall River police officers went to a home on Bay Street to serve an arrest warrant on a woman.

When officers arrived, another woman and a man began to resist and interfere with the officers, preventing them from arresting the original person on the warrants.

The woman officers had intended to arrest was eventually arrested.

The man continued to struggle and resist.

One of the officers used his department-issued stun gun in the “driver stun” mode on the man’s buttocks.

The man was brought under control, handcuffed and arrested.

The stun gun was not deployed in the traditional fashion with the prongs being discharged, police said.

While outside the building, the man went into cardiac arrest and was transported to St. Anne’s Hospital, where he died.

The death is now being investigated by the Bristol County District Attorney’s office and the medical examiner.
