NASHUA, N.H. (WHDH) — A store clerk in Nashua, N.H. lost his job after he pulled out his gun to prevent a robbery.
Shannon Cothran has a license to carry that weapon, but the company said he was looking for trouble.
According to police a man wearing a mask broke into the Shell gas station where Cothran used to work Monday morning at 3 a.m. with a knife.
“It became very apparent to me that he intended to do me harm regardless if he got the money. I took several steps back, drew my side arm and informed him this was a bad idea and he didn't want to do it at which point he departed he left,” Cothran said.
Cothran said he knew the company policy regarding firearms, but the decision was about protecting himself.
“I violated company policy it was grounds for termination they did exactly what their handbook said they were going to do. I knew exactly what I was doing. I chose to sacrifice my job in order to keep my bodily health and life,” he said.
