SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A man convicted of fatally shooting another man at a child’s birthday party in Massachusetts has been sentenced to life in prison.

Terrance Montgomery was sentenced Tuesday, a day after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Paul Finegan in May 2018.

Witnesses testified that the men began arguing at Montgomery’s niece’s birthday party in Springfield before Montgomery shot Finegan in the head.

The 24-year-old West Springfield man was arrested weeks later in North Carolina.

Montgomery was also convicted of two firearms charges.

He will be eligible for parole after 25 years.

At trial, his attorney said witnesses who identified Montgomery as the shooter were lying.
