A Brockton man was held without bail on Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery at the Westgate Mall parking lot. 

Before noon on Tuesday, Brockton Police received a report of an armed carjacking at the Westgate Mall. 

The suspect, a man, took a 2007 Toyota Camry at gunpoint after the owner, a woman, came out of a store with her 11-month-old infant.  The mother had been shopping with her mother. 

The suspect demanded the woman give him the car keys are she was putting her child into a car seat. 

At 12:01 p.m., a State Police trooper located the gray Camry on Arch Street in Brockton. The suspect was inside. 

State Police pursued the car, which continued onto Boylston Street in Stoughton. 

The suspect crashed into a pole and ran away. The trooper quickly captured and arrested the suspect. 

Jose Robles, 32 of Taunton, was charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, receiving stolen motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license and failure to stop for police. 

Robles was turned over to Brockton Police custody. 

The mother later told 7News the gun was a pellet gun.
