Worcester Police are investigating after a man in a wheelchair was stabbed over the weekend.

On Saturday around 2 p.m., police responded to Queen Street for a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police found a 66-year-old man suffering from a cut to the chest. He appeared to be in stable condition.

An initial investigation revealed the victim had been with a group of people when a man started arguing with a woman in the group.

Witnesses said they saw the suspect take out a knife and open it behind his back.

According to police, without any provocation the suspect pressed the knife against the victim’s chest, causing a cut that required stitches.

The suspect then ran away.

The suspect was identified as Leandro Rodriguez, 51 of Worcester.

Around 5:30 p.m. police found Rodriguez as he was walking on Austin Street.

He is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60.

The victim was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
