FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Police say a man has been seriously injured in a shooting at a Connecticut fried chicken restaurant.

Authorities say an employee at Wings Over Fairfield called police Tuesday night to report a man had been shot in the back of the building.

Officers arrived at the scene within seconds and found a man lying on his back with a gunshot wound to his chest.

The man has been taken to a Bridgeport hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable condition. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras says the shooting is believed to be self-inflicted and accidental.

An investigation is ongoing.
