A man is dead after an apartment building went up in flames in Fall River.

The fire sparked at the building on Covel Street just before 6 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters said the victim, a man in his 60s, lived on the third floor. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but firefighters believe it was accidental. Smoke detectors in the building were working at the time.
