MANSFIELD, MA (WHDH) — A Marston Mills man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a Mansfield police officer.

On Thursday around 9:30 a.m., Norton Police were notified by Mansfield Police that they were looking for a car in which a passenger had assaulted a police officer.

The car, a 2014 gray Toyota Corolla, was driven by William Poirier, 60 of Marston Mills.

An officer tried to stop Poirier in Norton, but Poirier continued to speed away.

The car was followed by police through Norton, Taunton and Raynham.

According to police, the car finally came to a stop on Route 495 in Raynham due to a flat tire.

Poirier was arrested by police and transferred to Mansfield police.

Throughout the pursuit, police said Poirier drove over the front lawns of several homes and weaved throughout traffic.

Poirier was charged by Norton police for failure to stop for police, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, marked lanes violation and stop sign violation.

He will appear in Attleboro District Court at a later date.
