BOSTON (WHDH) - A man pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run crash that left a girl dead and her cousin injured last year.

Yadielys DeLeon Camacho, 8, died in June 2015 after police said a speeding car driven by James Horton came up on the sidewalk and hit her and her 12-year-old cousin. Horton then drove off.

“He killed us both when he killed my niece,” said Yadielys’s aunt, Yanellys DeLeon, as she gave her impact statement.

The two children had been riding their bicycles when the car hit them. Yadielys’ cousin survived and the boy’s mother, Chantey Pagan, said he lost his sense of smell. Pagan said he also gets injured easily and suffers from chronic migraines.

The prosecutor also read a letter from Yadielys’s cousin. “I cry on birthdays and holidays because Yadielys doesn’t get to enjoy any of these things anymore,” the boy wrote.

Horton apologized to the family in court.

“I accept full responsibility for my actions and although my actions cannot be justified, I am not only ashamed of the crime I committed but it’s also something I regret entirely,” said Horton.

Horton will be sentenced on Friday.
