SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield man has pleaded not guilty to murder in the fatal stabbing of another man in a multi-story parking garage.

Anthony Casiano was arraigned Monday in the Saturday death of 26-year-old Benjamin Lariviere, of Wilbraham. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Casiano was held without bail and ordered to return to court on Dec. 20.

Police think the stabbing was a result of a dispute over damage to a car.

Officers caught 29-year-old Casiano as he attempted to leave the garage. Family members said in court that Casiano is innocent.

Police do not think the men knew each other prior to the dispute.

The death was the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
