WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - An 18-year-old wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at Worcester State University has been arrested in New York, the district attorney’s office announced.

Kevin Rodriguez was arrested on a warrant in connection with the fatal shooting at Worcester State University on Saturday.

Massachusetts State Police said he was arrested in a Brooklyn apartment and had been wanted on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault with intent to murder.

Police announced that they were seeking Rodriguez soon after the shooting on campus left one person dead and another hospitalized.

Randy Armando Melendez Jr., 19, of Southbridge was identified as the victim killed, while authorities described the other individual shot as a 21-year-old man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said neither the victims nor the alleged assailant were Worcester State students.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said the incident did not appear to be random, adding that the parties involved appeared to know each other.
