A police chase came to a crashing end in Wisconsin when a man stole a car with a woman in the back seat.

Police say the woman’s car was stolen while she was sleeping in the back of her car at a rest stop on January 14. The woman woke up to the high-speed ride and called for help.

The woman told dispatch her husband had just gotten out of the car and she didn’t know where she was.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim said the man told her he was a truck driver and that he was saving her from people who wanted to kill them.

Police say the car was traveling about 90mph on the wrong side of the road until police used a chase tactic to cause the car to crash into a guard rail.

The victim came out from the backseat crying and officers took the 51-year-old New York man into custody. He now faces multiple felony charges and allegedly admitted to using fentanyl and meth within the day leading up to the incident.

Officials say the victim is doing well and did a good job talking with the dispatcher and describing where she was.
