A 66-year-old Boston man was struck and killed by a car in South Boston on Tuesday night. 

State Police said the man was struck by a car on Old Colony Avenue at Gavin Way at around 6:15 p.m.

Police said preliminary investigation shows the man was attempting to cross the southbound lanes on Old Colony Avenue when he was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Astro. 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. On Wednesday, police said the man’s identity will not be released at this time, as they continue to to make efforts to locate his next of kin.

The 38-year-old Stoughton man who was driving the car stayed at the scene, police said. The driver was not injured. 

Police are investigating the crash. No charges have been filed.
