A man attempted to abduct a 9-year-old in Whitman on Friday.
Police say a man tried to kidnap the child on Lazel Street in her driveway as the girl was playing behind a camper.
The mother told 7News the man grabbed her and put his hands over her mouth. The mother also said the man said something unintelligible to the girl.
The girl’s cousin and a friend were nearby playing when the incident occurred, the mother said. The pair’s laughter scared the man away.
The 9-year-old girl then ran inside the house and notified her grandparents. The grandparents reported the incident to police.
Police described the suspect as a white man, 5’10", clean shaven, with acne marks on his face and wearing a black knit cap.
The suspect was also wearing black shoes a brown jacket and black fingerless gloves.
Police say the suspect fled the area after witnesses saw the incident.
