(WHDH) — A 26-year-old man will be able to create a special engagement ring for his future wife using a diamond he recently found at a state park in Arkansas.
Christian Liden, of Poulsbo, Washington, and a longtime friend visited Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park in search of gemstones.
They mined for three days before spotting a yellow diamond.
“I saw it shining as soon as I turned the screen over and immediately knew it was a diamond,” Linden told Arkansas State Parks. “I was shaking so bad, I asked my buddy to grab it out of the gravel for me.”
Linden placed the gem in a plastic bag and carried it to the park’s Diamond Discovery Center, where staff confirmed he had found a 2.2 carat yellow diamond.
Linden has also panned for gold for the ring and plans on mining for opals in Nevada.
Once he proposes, Liden says he wants to design an engagement ring with his bride-to-be using his diamond and other gemstones collected along his cross-country mining quest.
