MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - A man has been charged with two counts of attempted capital murder following the shootings of two Manchester, New Hampshire, police officers early Friday morning.
Ian MacPherson, 32, was arrested for resisting detention. Police secured arrest warrants for with two counts of attempted capital murder.
He is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Officer Ryan Hardy, 27, saw a man walking on Second Street near Ferry Street.
Hardy approached the man, who met the description of a man who robbed a Shell gas station on May 12. That man was described as a white man, with long hair wearing a trench coat.
Hardy soon radioed that he had been shot. He suffered wounds to his face and torso. He is in stable condition at a Boston hospital. He was transferred to the Boston hospital at his request, to be closer to family, not due to his injuries.
Around 2:33 a.m., Officer Matthew O’Connor, 28, and members of the New Hampshire State Police saw a man matching the same description on Rimmon Street near Putnam Street.
O’Connor asked the man to put his hands up and then the man began to fire at O’Connor, hitting him in the leg.
Police said the man then ran into a wooded area.
O’Connor was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
MacPherson was arrested around 5 a.m. after officers saw him walking on Bartlett Street.
New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan released a statement Friday:
“I am thankful for the bravery and service of these two Manchester police officers who courageously put their lives on the line early this morning, as all of our public safety officers do every day, to protect their fellows citizens and to keep our communities and our state safe. I have spoken with them both and am grateful that they are expected to recover. My thoughts are with them and their families, and I join all Granite Staters in wishing them a speedy and full recovery.”
