MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) — A woman who lost her leg on Marathon Monday is making progress in her recovery.
Heather Abbott received her first prosthetic leg back in June and Thursday she was measured for a new, high definition silicone 'cover' which will make the prosthetic look more like a human leg.
Abbott said getting used to her new leg has been a process.
“I’ve been walking quite a bit. I started running a little bit in physical therapy, certainly not at a pace I’m used to, but it’s a start. This past weekend I went out paddle boarding for the first time,” Abbott said.
Technicians also worked Thursday to match the cover for Abbott’s prosthetic leg, which she can use while wearing high heels.
She said she can't wait to start wearing more of her shoes again.
